Meet the Vascular Team Behind Your Care
Vascular Wellness Institute is built around a simple belief: patients deserve to be seen, heard, and treated by experts who genuinely care about their long-term health. Our team combines surgical precision, rigorous academic training, and a compassionate approach to deliver vascular care that’s rare in community practice — and expected at the nation’s best academic medical centers.
Trained at University of Maryland Medical Center and Thomas Jefferson University — two nationally recognized vascular surgery programs.
Our surgeons are focused on the whole patient rather than procedures and are well researched, ensuring care reflects the latest clinical evidence.
Dr. Ulloa’s quadruple board certification in general surgery, vascular surgery, wound care, and integrative medicine means we treat the whole person, not just the vessel.
We chose Sarasota and Bradenton to build lasting patient relationships and serve the Gulf Coast for the long term.
Dr. Kristian Ulloa is the one of the only vascular surgeons in the United States who is quadruple board-certified — in general surgery, vascular surgery, wound care, and integrative medicine. This breadth of certification reflects a practice philosophy that goes beyond treating the vessel: he treats the whole person, addressing the underlying systemic factors that drive vascular disease alongside the surgical and procedural needs.
Dr. Ulloa’s clinical focus spans advanced wound care and limb preservation, minimally invasive vein treatment, carotid artery disease and stroke prevention, and functional medicine approaches to vascular inflammation. His patients benefit from a surgeon who can offer both a scalpel and a prevention plan — often at the same visit.
Dr. Mariano Arosemena is a board-certified vascular surgeon and endovascular specialist with a breadth of expertise genuinely rare in a community practice setting. Born in Panama, he trained in vascular surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital — one of the nation’s premier endovascular programs — and went on to serve as Vascular Surgery Fellowship Site Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, training the next generation of vascular specialists.
Dr. Arosemena is also a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), certifying his specialist-level proficiency in vascular ultrasound — enabling faster, more precise diagnosis and treatment planning. He is a national faculty member and physician proctor for the TCAR procedure (Trans Carotid Artery Revascularization), training vascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and neurosurgeons across the United States in this advanced stroke-prevention technique.
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Arosemena ensures that Spanish-speaking patients throughout the Gulf Coast region receive consultations, surgical discussions, and follow-up care entirely in their primary language — no interpreter needed.
Marianela Horta Acosta brings an extraordinary perspective to patient care — one shaped by 18 years practicing medicine in Cuba as a physician, a journey of courage and reinvention after emigrating to the United States, and a deep, faith-driven commitment to caring for the most vulnerable.
After arriving in the United States, Marianela found in nursing a path that honored her medical background and allowed her to continue the work she had always been called to: providing comfort, competence, and genuine human connection to patients and families. Her experience spans from nursing homes to assisted living facilities and home care — giving her an unusually broad understanding of patients at every stage of health.
Now having completed her Nurse Practitioner program, Marianela joins the Vascular Wellness Institute team with the same mission she has carried throughout her career: saving lives and healing souls.
Recommendations grounded in peer-reviewed evidence, not convention or habit.
Vascular health doesn’t exist in isolation. We address the systemic factors — inflammation, lifestyle, metabolic health — alongside surgical needs.
Always pursue the least invasive, safest option where clinically appropriate.
Building lasting relationships to monitor, prevent, and improve vascular health over time.
